MTSC Uniform Policy Overview

We require families to purchase jerseys for their players. There is no requirement to purchase shorts or socks. The uniform will continue to be any pair of black shorts with no pockets (no change to policy) and green socks. As before, one new pair of socks will be given to players new to the club. We acknowledge that the $20 cost of the jersey is a new expense, but the cost of the MTSC uniform is still

less than what most of the other local recreational clubs charge for their full uniform.

We have chosen a jersey that is available to club members for $20 at Score It Soccer Supply. This jersey normally retails for $28 without logos and numbers. It is not the least expensive jersey available, but the jersey we have chosen is much more durable than the cheapest jerseys and will therefore be around for additional years of use. This will make a “jersey exchange” possible, which will be similar to the shoe exchange that we currently have. In addition, $1 of each jersey sold will go to a scholarship fund. Other than that there is no mark up on these jerseys for the club and very little for Score It. Further, we plan to sell the old jerseys as a memento to help build the initial “jersey scholarship fund”.

Other than the jersey purchase, the cost of MTSC registration did not go up this year. MTSC registration fees have gone up only once in the last three years, and that was in anticipation of the costs associated with our aging, dwindling fleet of loaner jerseys, which increasingly have not been returned at the end of the season. In fact, the need to change our uniform policy this year resulted primarily from the fact that we no longer have enough jerseys to adequately supply our teams because so many have gone missing.

For years, we have been the only PYSA club that provides free loaner jerseys. Since we are unable to continue loaning jerseys, we've been careful in choosing a new jersey for our players. Compared to the jersey we have selected, other clubs are either requiring their players to buy more expensive uniforms, or are requiring their players to buy uniforms that are cheaper in every sense of the word, which translates to buying a new jersey every one or two years. MTSC (Dale Montgomery in particular) has put a lot of effort into finding the most inexpensive, durable jersey available. The result is, even with this uniform policy change, MTSC still provides the most affordable recreational soccer experience in our area.
