Mount Tabor Soccer Club, Portland, Oregon

Mount Tabor Soccer Club provides affordable recreational soccer to hundreds of kids, grades K - 8, in Southeast Portland. All youth are eligible to play. We are a non-profit, volunteer-run organization. Our goal is to enhance the lives of families in our area, strengthen our community, and further the game of soccer.

Thanks to our great volunteers—coaches, team parents, board members—who give so generously of their time and talents.

Thanks to our sponsors, who donate cash and in-kind items to the club: American Medical Response; Flying Pie Pizzeria; Hawthorne Vision Center; Realty Trust / Jan Caplener; Parkside Orthondontics / Dr. Rebecca Kuperstein; Stark Street Pizza; The Wall; Edward Jones Investments / Bruce Kent; and Mariko Locke / State Farm Insurance. Please patronize these businesses, who have lowered YOUR fees, improved YOUR practice fields, and shown their commitment to our community.

Parents: Thanks to you for supporting your player!

Welcome to Mount Tabor Soccer Club, a member club of Portland Youth Soccer Association and Oregon Youth Soccer Association.

Spring League is in the books

Our regular spring season is ended for players U7-U14. Have a nice summer! See you in the fall!

The State Games of Oregon tournament happens next weekend, May 31 - June 1. Several Mount Tabor teams have registered to play in this tournament and we wish for every player a fun and rewarding experience. Fans can attend these games, which will be held at Delta Park from 8:00 a.m. thoughout the day.

Departing 8th graders: Congratulations on your promotion! You're done with our program. If you want to try out for high school soccer or if you just think you MIGHT, get in touch with your high school's Athletic Director or soccer coach. Most schools have a summer fitness program to prepare players for tryouts and to let them get to know one another. If you do NOT play for your high school soccer team, there is a great opportunity for you at Portland High School Co-Ed Soccer

Fall Soccer 2008 Registration Open Now

Register your player for our fall season now. Get lower rates and a guaranteed spot on a team.

Returning players have received a registration form in the mail. Fill it out and send it to our registrar with your payment.

Players who are new to the club should contact our terrific registrar Darcy Mundorff (503-253-5638 or registrar@mttaborsoccer.org).

Fall Pricing

Sign up this week for lower prices!

We have a two-tier pricing scheme to encourage early registration. Players who register on or before May 31st pay a lower rate and with the exception of U9 can generally expect a spot on the team they played on last year. Returning players who register on or after June 1st pay a slightly higher rate, and are not guaranteed a spot. We try to leave room for late-comers and make room for everyone, but since we begin forming teams June 1st things can get tight. Prices for 2008 Fall soccer are:

CategoryNew players any time
or returning players
through May 31st
Returning players
June 1st and later
Kick and chase (intramural kindergarten program)$40n/a
U7 (first graders) – U14 (8th graders)$50$60
Family max$110$125

Folks, this is a tremendous bargain! $13 of your player fee registers your player with OYSA, which pays administrative fees, coach and referee training, and an insurance premium for secondary medical insurance. This insurance will provide medical care in case of otherwise-uninsured injuries at practices and matches. The balance buys you practice fields, match fields, and referees' wages. It also provides team equiment and uniform rental, as well as helping to pay for field turf improvements in our neighborhood and helping subsidize the fees of needier players. We and our parent organizations are run very frugally. You benefit.

The club provides a uniform jersey for each player, to be returned at the end of the season, and to be worn only for matches. There is a $20 fee for a lost or non-returned jersey. Players new to the club get a free pair of socks. Additional socks are available through the club for $5.

The club offers a 50% scholarship for families who need help with club fees.

Returning Coaches

Coaches, we love you! (Does everyone out there know that all our coaches are volunteers?!)

Please keep in touch with coach coordinator Jeremy Sarant.

Come to SoccerFest on August 12th. You may send a representative, though it is best if the coach, assistant coach, or team parent can come. At SoccerFest pick up your equipment, uniforms, field permit, roster, etc.

Summer Camps 2008

The club is teaming up with UK Soccer International for two weeks of high energy summer soccer day camps in our neighborhood. We hope every family will take advantage of this great opportunity. You can sign up for one week or both, and for a half-day morning program or the full day program. The whole thing takes place at Lower Clinton Park, next to Franklin High School, with convenient parking at the dead end of Clinton Street just off 58th Avenue. Camp dates are the week of June 23rd and the week of July 7th.

The club is not financially involved in this at all. But we really like this outfit and we are eager to offer opportunities like this to develop our players. You will find brochures about this camp in your registration mailing.

If these camp dates don't work for you, or if you want to know about more options, see our summer camps page.

Rules, Rules, Rules

Two-Adult Rule

Our club requires teams to obey the two-adult rule: Never be the only adult with a player or players (other than your own child/ren). Parents, please be aware of this rule. DO NOT DROP OFF YOUR CHILD if the coach is the only adult present. Stick around until another adult shows up. Coaches, please encourage your assistant or parents to plan so it is easy to obey the two-adult rule. The two-adult rule protects the child and the adult.

Registered players only

Players are not registered until they are registered with OYSA. This generally takes a few days after the time our registrar receives the necessary form and fee. You can ask our registrar for confirmation, but please DO NOT make assumptions. No player except those who are completely registered should set foot on the field—practice or match. Do not permit unregistered siblings, curious neighbor kids, or anyone else to participate in your MTSC event unless/until the person is registered.

First Aid Kits

Club first aid kits are property of the club and you are to return them at the end of the season for restocking. There is also a procedure for restocking mid-season. Please familiarize yourself with all the information provided with the kits.

Mount Tabor Soccer is grateful for the support of American Medical Response, and the initiative of coach and equipment czar Dale Montgomery on this project.

New Rosters for U9s

We have had some questions about our new U9 rosters. The club's policy is to reroster teams at the beginning of third grade. This is explained here.
