Volunteering
Within Your Player's Team
Most of our teams need to have a coach, an assistant coach, and a team parent. (Team parents organize snacks, keep track of uniforms and other player needs, run the phone tree, etc.) Beyond these named functions, every team needs parents who are willing to serve in other roles, such as:
- referees for U7 and U8, and assistant referees for older ages;
- folks who set up nets and corner flags;
- team photographer and cinematographer;
- party organizers;
- the "second adult" at practices, and other situations where players are present (club rules require two adults at all times);
- face painter (for Halloween matches, tournaments, and other special occasions);
Parents, please step up to fill these roles. Working together, we make the team experience a success for everyone.
At the Club Level
Serving our club as a volunteer is fun and rewarding.
We share the load. There are many ways to get involved and make a difference.
If you would like to join us as a coach, please contact our coach coordinator.
We are currently looking for people to act in the following volunteer roles. These
people will work with the board to strengthen our club and programs.
- Franklin High School Liaison. There are many opportunities we can develop
by having a person who knows the coaches and players at Franklin and the needs
of our club. Our teams could attend high school practices. Our players could
serve as ball-boys and ball-girls at Franklin's home games. Franklin players
could serve in our club as assistant coaches, or they could put on clinics for
our players. Franklin's coaches could address our coaches at meetings, or make
themselves available as an expert resource. This person works primarily
with our Coach Coordinator.
- Nominating Committee Member. In order to maintain a healthy flow of "new
blood" and to avoid burn-out in our board of directors we would like to maintain
a nominating committee. This is
a group composed of board members and parents who can help to identify people
in our community who have the gifts to keep our club energized. This group will
meet a few times during the year, develop a slate of qualified and willing nominees,
and bring this slate to the board for election to positions in the following year.
This person works closely with the club president.
If you would like to know about other volunteer opportunities, or if
you have ideas to suggest, please contact our volunteer coordinator.
If you would consider serving on the board, please contact our president. Thank you!
Serving in PYSA and OYSA
The governing bodies which sanction soccer clubs and matches between clubs provide an essential service to the community. Each club in Oregon is expected to provide volunteers to help with the administration of these organizations. Skills they are looking for include financial, legal, and administrative oversight, group facilitation, clerical help, sports medicine, etc. At these levels, there are non-trivial interactions with municipalities, large sponsors, land use governance boards, utilities, etc.
If you think you might be interested in furthering the cause of soccer at this level, please contact our president, or contact PYSA or OYSA directly.
